چکیده

Performance evaluation studies are to be an integral part of the design and tuning of parallel applications Their structure and their behavior are the dominating factors We propose a hierarchical approach to the systematic characterization of the workload of a parallel system to be kept as modular and exible as possible The methodology is based on three di erent but related layers the application the algorithm and the routine layer For each of these layers di erent characteristics rep resenting functional sequential parallel and quantitative descriptions have been identi ed Taking also architectural and mapping features into consideration the hierarchical workload characterization can be used for any type of performance studies

A Systematic Approach for Workload Modeling for Parallel Processing Systems

The objectives in workload characterization for parallel systems are to provide adequate representations of the programs and the associated data and to characterize the way in which these programs are submitted to the system (user interaction). In this work a systematic framework and a corresponding methodology for workload modeling of parallel systems is proposed. The corresponding methodology...

A Hierarchical Approach to Modeling and Improving the Performance of Scientific Applications on the KSR1

We have developed a hierarchical performance bounding methodology that attempts to explain the performance of loop-dominated scientific applications on particular systems. The Kendall Square Research KSR1 is used as a running example. We model the throughput of key hardware units that are common bottlenecks in concurrent machines. The four units currently used are: memory port, floating-point, ...

A hierarchical approach for designing the downstream segment for a supply chain of petroleum production systems

Strategic decisions in a supply chain are the most important decisions for petroleum production systems. These decisions, due to high costs of transportation and storing, are costly and affected by the tactical and operational decisions in uncertain situations. In this article, we focus on designing a downstream segment for a supply chain of petroleum production systems. For this purpose, we wi...
